If you like the idea of Jasper as a character, like this post. If a significant number of people like him, he’ll be included.

Jasper was Cailin’s oldest friend, a pyrokinetic with a secondary Empathic Talent.

He is currently working on a not-exactly-legal ship called The Customary Price, where…

How can you have emphatic superpowers but be a sociopath?

DOES NOT COMPUTE.

In knowing how other people feel and what makes them feel that way, he’s figured out how to manipulate them most easily, and considers himself better than them because other people cannot understand *him* without having to try hard.

…so sociopaths aren’t defined by their inability to understand and experience human emotions in this?

This feels off to me. Like… Crooked. A treehouse with nothing supporting it but a tree limb.

Hm, well I did say an ‘element’ of sociopathy, but that’s just arguing the technicalities.

What would you suggest? Remove the secondary talent completely?

Seems like removing the empathy would be the best for a sociopath. Perhaps you can save that ability for a villain instead.

That works for me. Although I would still like to give Jasper a secondary talent to contrast his level of ability with Cailin’s complete lack.

Shui Upon-Thyme

Shui is another member of the security team on The Customary Price. As he has a Water Talent, he’s often partnered with Jasper. He’s a planner, and often has fallback plans for any possible situation. He’s incredibly intelligent, and although the strength of his talent is less than his partner’s, he is much smarter about the way he uses it, and can get a huge effect with a lot less firepower.

Jasper Clark- best friend

If you like the idea of Jasper as a character, like this post. If a significant number of people like him, he’ll be included.

Jasper was Cailin’s oldest friend, a pyrokinetic with a secondary Strength Talent.

He is currently working on a not-exactly-legal ship called The Customary Price, where he works as an enforcer, as part of the security team.

Jasper is a smart, capable guy who is immensely practical and has always been more logical than emotional. That said, his friends are very, very close to him, and he’d do anything for them.

He has no problem with killing people, lying, or being heartless, and considers most people entirely unimportant. There’s definitely an undertone of sociopathy to him, but those he considers important, like his sister, his team, or Cailin, he would do anything for.

The world is separated into Jasper (and those who he considers his) and everything else.

Cailin Daniels- protagonist

Cailin’s big claim to fame is that she is completely and totally normal.

In a place where everyone else has Talents- psychic, empathic, pyrokinetic, *something*- Cailin is a blank slate.

She’s smart, but only a little above average.

She’s pretty, but in a plain, everyday way.

She’s fit, but not more than any other girl her age.

Which makes the fact that there are multi billion dollar pharmaceutical corporations out for her blood more than a little strange to her.

And because she isn’t special, she’s going to have work a hell of a lot harder than her pursuers just to stay out of reach.

I have 5 followers, and the 4 who have replied have said Sci-fi

So that’s what we’ll go with.

Now, in terms of the protagonist, I’ve had 2 votes for female.

When it comes to scifi, I’m more of a cyber-punk/gritty sci fi than a Star Trek/Star Wars smooth and plastic scifi

But let’s talk characters.

We’ve got our protagonist.

And then a group of secondary characters- because I like large casts.

I’m thinking, at the very least, two to three friends of some kind/team mates, a love interest or two or three, a rival, an enemy, an authority figure or two, and other sundries.
